How these numbers are worked out

  • Coverage anchor: 6 bags (55 lb, 25 kg each) cover 50 sq ft at 1.5 in. That is 0.12 bags per sq ft at 1.5 in, or 0.08 bags per sq ft for every inch of depth.
  • Bag volume from that figure: 50 sq ft x 1.5 in, divided by 6, gives 29.5 L of loose material per bag.
  • EPDM binder at 9 L of rubber to 1 L of resin: 29.5 divided by 9 is 3.28 L of binder per bag.
  • EPDM top at 0.625 in: 0.050 bags of granules and 0.164 L of binder per sq ft.
  • SBR base at 1.5 in: 0.12 bags of granules (at $55 a bag) and 0.48 L of resin per sq ft.
  • Binder is priced per 5 gal (20 kg) unit, which is 18.93 L.

Material cost only. Labor, surface prep, freight, waste and your margin are not included, so build them in before you quote.

Figures follow the RR Master Retail Pricing Sheet. Material prices move with supply, so check current prices before quoting. Shaded columns are the aliphatic, UV-stable system used for outdoor work.

What does poured EPDM rubber cost per square foot in materials?

A 0.625 in EPDM wear layer runs from $6.50 per sq ft (HIG primary granules with aromatic binder bought in drums) to $10.50 (PRO EPDM with aliphatic binder in pails). A full system on a 1.5 in SBR base runs from $17.64 to $25.44 per sq ft. Those are material costs only, before labor, prep, freight, waste and margin.

What is the mix ratio for EPDM granules and binder?
